01

Price the identified polymer

A water treatment flocculant price needs a named grade, supplied form, declared active basis and delivery scope. Do not put powder, emulsion and prepared solution into one price-per-tonne table as if each tonne represented the same polymer or treatment function.

Start with the supplier RFQ brief and link the offer to the screened sample. A cheaper material with a different ionic or formulation identity is an alternate candidate requiring review, not a discount on an already accepted grade.

02

Separate product, active and solution quantities

Keep supplied-product mass, polymer mass and prepared-feed volume distinct. Divide product price per kilogram by the declared active mass fraction for an initial active-cost comparison. Volume-priced emulsions require the appropriate density before a mass calculation.

Confirm whether a reported content means active polymer, total solids or another measured fraction. A nominal high concentration is not sufficient evidence of equivalent treatment. Preserve units and methods so laboratory and purchasing teams compare the same declared quantity.

03

Calculate the measured treatment contribution

For illustration only, a product costing USD 3.00 per kilogram at a demonstrated product consumption of 0.002 kilogram per cubic metre contributes USD 0.006 per cubic metre. These numbers demonstrate arithmetic; they are not a Xinqi price, standard dose or performance recommendation.

Use the consumption that met the agreed water and solids objectives in representative conditions. Do not replace actual feed calibration with a pump-percentage setting or extrapolate one favourable jar to every raw-water condition.

04

Include preparation and operating limits

Add make-down water, feeder or inversion requirements, labour, cleaning and usable-stock losses where they affect the comparison. A technically effective powder may need equipment capacity the plant does not have; an emulsion may introduce different handling or dilution constraints.

The product-form comparison provides the technical foundation. Keep additional equipment costs separate from recurring chemical costs and identify whether a proposed saving depends on an unverified change in operating practice.

05

Measure the accepted output

Use clarified water that meets the defined target, not total water pumped regardless of outcome. Include relevant filter run, carryover, underflow handling or recycle stability when those consequences govern value. Larger floc alone cannot establish a cost advantage.

Where feed water varies, compare normal and credible difficult intervals. Record the incumbent and candidate under sufficiently stable conditions. Any difference caused by water, flow or separator loading should remain visible rather than be credited automatically to the polymer.

06

Align quotations commercially

Use the same currency, named delivery place, package and quotation date. Identify freight, unloading, special marking, disposal or container-return charges that are excluded. Separate sample, plant-trial and routine-order pricing.

Match order quantity to approved demand and grade-specific storage guidance. A bulk discount may be outweighed by unusable inventory after a source-water or process change. Do not treat an incomplete ex-works quote as equal to a fully scoped delivered offer.

07

Keep a reproducible buying worksheet

Record product code, active definition, preparation, calibrated consumption, accepted output, relevant operating costs and commercial assumptions. Mark estimated or missing costs clearly rather than enter zero as if no expense existed.

Send water analysis, treatment sequence, separator, trial volume and destination through the flocculant quotation request. Retain the worksheet with technical approval so later changes in dose, activity or logistics trigger a factual economic review.

08

Keep cost changes attributable

Use separate worksheet fields for product price, active definition, measured feed, accepted output and each observed operating consequence. Mark estimated freight or handling figures as estimates and show the date represented. Do not fill an unknown cost with zero simply to complete the table.

At the next review, identify whether the cost changed because of product price, assay, dose, water quality or separator performance. Preserve the original trial and calculation so a commercial adjustment is not misreported as a chemical-performance loss or a laboratory improvement as a permanent operating saving.
